Crater Town Gym — Leader Véga
The second Gym in Pokémon Unbound, led by Véga, is a Dark-type Gym hidden in near-total darkness. Find the Gym route, solve the darkness puzzle, learn how the negative-emotions effect works, see Véga’s team on each difficulty, and prepare for the Vision Badge battle.

The Crater Town Gym
The gym puzzle
The gym is shrouded in darkness — you can barely see. Every trainer you beat restores some of your vision. And watch out: patrolling trainers walk the halls, and if one spots you, you get teleported back to the entrance.
- Head right from the entrance, then straight up. This room has 4 trainers — battle all of them to restore your vision.
- Go back to the entrance, then follow the path straight up and to the left.
- Dodge the patrolling trainer by hiding in the small gap at the bottom side of the wall.
- Keep going left, hiding from the trainer with the red headband the same way.
- Reach the checkpoint at the end of the wall — from here on, getting caught sends you back here instead of the entrance.
- Dodge the next three patrolling trainers. The second one’s hiding spot is small, so time your run — you can also hide at the very end of the corridor, but run out fast before he catches you.
- Go down through the narrow corridor, avoiding the final trainer with the video camera.
- Enter the open room at the end — Véga is waiting.
😈 Negative emotions
The gym is filled with negative emotions that deal about 6% of your max HP at the end of every turn. Dark, Psychic and Ghost-type Pokémon are immune to this effect — so bringing one along makes the whole gym (and the leader fight) much easier.

How to beat Véga
⚔️ Strategy
- Bring Fighting, Bug, or Fairy-type attacks. These are the main weaknesses across Véga’s Dark-type team, with Fighting being especially effective against Sneasel, Weavile, and Pawniard.
- Don’t fear Liepard and Absol too much. On lower difficulties they mostly stall with Fake Out and Detect — they’re annoying, not dangerous.
- Respect the fast ones. Sneasel (and Weavile on Expert) are quick and hit hard with Icy Wind and Ice Shard. Hit them with a Fighting move first — Sneasel takes 4x from Fighting.
- Bring a Dark, Psychic or Ghost type to ignore the gym’s negative-emotions chip damage.
- On Insane: save your Fairy or Fighting attacker for Mega Absol — it sets up Swords Dance and sweeps if you let it. Spiritomb only fears Fairy, so have an answer ready.

Crater Town Gym FAQ
What level should I be for Véga in Pokémon Unbound?
Around Lv. 20–23 on Vanilla and Lv. 24–27 on Difficult. The Vision Badge raises the obedience level to Lv. 32, so there’s room to train beyond the Gym’s recommended range.
How do I see in the dark Gym?
Beat the 4 trainers in the first room — each victory restores part of your vision. The darkness remains part of the Gym puzzle, so you need to work through the trainer encounters to see more clearly.
What happens if a patrolling trainer catches me?
You’re sent back to the Gym entrance, or to the checkpoint once you’ve reached it. You don’t lose items or other progress.
What’s the best type against Véga?
Fighting-type attacks are the strongest general choice. They hit Véga’s Dark-type Pokémon super-effectively, including 4× damage against Sneasel, Weavile, and Pawniard.
Does Véga Mega Evolve in Pokémon Unbound?
Only on Insane difficulty. His Absol Mega Evolves with Absolite; on the other difficulty modes, Véga does not Mega Evolve.
