The Ring Challenge
There’s no maze or switches here. To reach Big Mo you must win a Ring Challenge — three trainer battles in a row using one single Pokémon from your team.
- Your Pokémon is healed after each battle, but you can’t swap it out.
- Flying, Psychic and Fairy moves are disabled — but here’s the trick: the game only disables the types you actually brought. If your Pokémon has no Psychic or Fairy moves, only Flying moves get shut off (or whichever type you do carry).
- Plan around this: bring a Pokémon whose best moves are not Flying, Psychic or Fairy, and the restriction barely touches you.
Beat all three trainers and the door to Big Mo opens.

How to beat Big Mo
- Bring a strong Flying type. On Vanilla and Difficult, three of his four Pokémon are weak to Flying — it’s the single best answer to this gym.
- Beat Mienshao fast. It spams Aura Sphere (never misses) and heals with Drain Punch, and can pivot out with U-Turn. Don’t let it sit around healing.
- Pangoro hates Fairy. It takes 4x from Fairy moves — one strong Fairy attack usually ends it.
- Save a Fire type for Mega Lucario. It’s the most dangerous Pokémon on his Vanilla/Difficult team with a very aggressive moveset. Fire hits it hard.
- Expect Hyper Potions. He heals his Pokémon when they drop below half HP, so hit hard enough to finish them in one or two blows.
- On Expert/Insane, forget the Fighting plan — it’s a team of giants. Bring Grass and Electric for Wailord and Mudsdale, and Fighting for Snorlax and Terrakion.
