Dehara City Gym — Leader Galavan

The fifth Gym in Pokémon Unbound, led by Galavan, is an Electric-type Gym in Dehara City built around platforms, trap doors, and light-bulb switches. Solve the Gym puzzle, see Galavan’s team on every difficulty, learn the best ways to counter his Electric Pokémon, and claim the Battery Badge and Surf.

Gym overview

City: Dehara City

Leader: Galavan

Type specialty: Electric

Badge: Battery Badge — Pokémon up to Lv. 52 obey you, and you can use HM03 Surf outside battle (works on lava too)

The gym puzzle

The gym floor is full of platforms, trap doors and light bulbs. Electric barriers block the path to Galavan, and each one turns off when you switch on the right bulb. The pattern is always the same:

  1. Ride a platform to a new area.
  2. Drop through trap doors to reach lower floors.
  3. Find the light bulb and switch it on — this kills one electric barrier.
  4. Backtrack to the entrance area and check which barrier dropped.

There are several bulbs to flip, and some trainers along the way can’t be skipped — fight them, since you’ll walk past them again anyway. Keep flipping bulbs and following newly opened paths and you’ll reach Galavan at the back of the gym.

How to beat Galavan

  • Bring Ground types. They’re immune to Electric, and most of his team is weak to Ground — Alolan Golem takes 4x damage from it.
  • Watch out for Levitate. Eelektross floats, so Ground moves miss it. The move Gravity removes Levitate and makes his whole team hittable — several Pokémon around Dehara can learn it.
  • Camerupt is perfect here. Ground/Fire means it’s immune to Electric and hits back hard with Fire moves. Catch a Numel on Route 4 or at Cinder Volcano and evolve it.
  • Kill Mega Manectric fast. It’s the fastest thing on his team and hits hard with Discharge. A strong Ground move before it moves usually ends it.
  • On Expert/Insane, his team gets mixed types (Steel, Dragon, Fire) — bring Fire and Fighting coverage alongside your Ground types.

Dehara City Gym FAQ

What type is the Dehara City Gym in Pokémon Unbound?
Electric. Galavan uses Electric-type Pokémon on every difficulty in Pokémon Unbound, with some mixed types appearing on Expert and Insane.
How do I solve the Dehara Gym puzzle?
Ride the floor platforms, drop through trap doors, and switch on the light bulbs. Each bulb disables one Electric barrier, so backtrack after each one to check the newly opened path.
What is good against Galavan in Pokémon Unbound?
Ground-type Pokémon are strong against Galavan because they are immune to Electric attacks and their Ground-type moves are super-effective against his Electric Pokémon. Camerupt is a useful choice because its Ground/Fire typing also gives it coverage against some of his other Pokémon. Use Gravity or another way to deal with Eelektross, which has Levitate.
What does the Battery Badge do?
The Battery Badge lets Pokémon up to level 52 obey you, and you can use HM03 Surf outside battle, including surfing across lava.
Does Galavan Mega Evolve in Pokémon Unbound?
Yes. Galavan uses Mega Manectric on Vanilla and Difficult, while Mega Ampharos appears on Expert and Insane.
